"The Secret Circle" & How Social Network Marketing Might Have Fared

By Rob Sutter

I started to watch "The Secret Circle" with my girlfriend a couple of weeks ago and I thought that the show was generally very good. There was a great emphasis on storytelling along with magic, both of the elements blended together very nicely. It's hard for me to be invested in any television show, so it was surprising, to me, that I was able to stay through it for the long haul. Considering how it ended, though, should social network marketing have been a help on the matter?

Let's say that you were to go around ask fans why they thought the show was cancelled; you'll be given a number of reasons. One of them might be the cost of the show and how much went into the special effects. You can't exactly blame the creators for putting so much into that aspect because in a show about witches, effects are going to be heavily utilized. That being said, I can't deny that visuals that are so strong do not exactly come cheap.

It's also possible that the decline in ratings were the cause of the show's cancellation. I may be a fan of the show but you have to keep in mind that not every program on television is going to have strong marketing. You may have the smartest and most engaging show but it's not going to matter much unless people aren't tuning in to watch. As a result, I don't think that it's right to place the blame on poor quality because the show could have used much more effective online marketing.

I think that agencies specializing in this regard, fishbat amongst many, would probably help the level of awareness brought to a show. One way that this could come about would be through social network marketing so that an even wider demographic would be appealed to. However, keeping in mind the audience to specifically market to would hold a great deal of importance. Those who would watch "Supernatural" on occasion would, without question, take to this show more likely than not because of shared elements between them.

When a show reaches the point of cancellation, maybe you understand why it hit that point and maybe you're left confused. I think that anyone can comprehend why it came about if they become bored with watching one episode after another before calling it quits. Why is it, then, that a show is legitimately fun to watch is not given the new lease on life that it deserves? "The Secret Circle" definitely fits into the latter category and I find it to be a shame.
