Considerations To Make When Selecting A Plastic Card Printing Machine

By Ladonna Chambers

As much as most businesses would prefer their plastic cards to be printed by a reputable plastic card printing, other would wish to print them by themselves. The problem occurs in that not all business owners are good at it, hence making mistakes when choosing plastic cards printer. In order to get the best printer, there are several considerations to make when buying one.

Whether the prints to be done will be color or monochrome is a vital consideration to make. The business owner should know the printer they wish to have is for printing black or monochrome text only. They should bear in mind that color printers can print both monochrome and multicolored images, hence they are the most convenient.

They should also consider if they will be adding any photos, logos or other multicolored elements. Due to their cheapness and low print cost, monochrome printers tend to appeal more. But they can be limiting and in order to print color photos or logs the owner would have to look for another machine. As card printers are designed to last roughly two years, looking at the picture is important when parting with money to buy one.

A majority of color machines are made to print both monochrome and color images, which depends on the ribbons inserted in them. Through parting with a little more money to get a good color machine, anyone can print anything they wish for a long time by just switching a ribbon. Addition of professional details, secure images and graphics will boost the business image.

The other factor to consider is what the cards to be printed will look like. Although at the time of purchase the business may not have decided on the artwork, it would help a lot to know if printing will be on one or both sides of the cards. There are single sided printers known as Simplex printers and dual sided ones referred to as Duplex printers. If one plans to print on just one card side for quite a while, then a quality single sided printer will perfectly suit them. Those wishing to print on both sides will have to think for a while, as both types of machines will suit them.

Another vital factor to consider involves how cards are being printed. Printer designs are numerous, with every volume having a different design. Some printers are made for low volume projects lasting a short time, like the cute or gimmicky ones. Getting spare parts for such machines is difficult, with more repair and print costs.

Mid range printers are other machines worth considering. They are affordable enough for small volumes, but tough enough to last for years. Other printers are better designed to print large volumes, as well as having cost saving benefits like lifetime warranties for print head.

The card durability required is also something to consider. Plastic cards are prone to wearing out, depending on how they are used. For example, swiping cards used daily are likely to wear faster than VIC cards only staying in wallets. A plastic card printing device that can do lamination or overlays after the print process is highly recommended.
