How Online Marketing Can Play A Part In E3?

By Rob Sutter

I think that E3 has the potential to bring together all kinds of gamers, which is something you can't say about other events. This trade event is to video game press what Mario is to gaming in general; it's one of those names that you simply cannot miss. It's where announcements are made to a wide audience so that everyone will be able to hear them. However, one has to consider the presence of various strategies, with online marketing being seen amongst the litany of them.

You'd be right in assuming that many companies will be involved on the matter. However, out of all of them, I think most will agree that Sony and Microsoft have the most amounts of eyes on them. You can chalk this up to their consoles and the anticipation for the news at hand. Microsoft is the company I am more concerned with, though, because it seems like such cases as DRM that does nothing to help consumers have put it in a bad place.

The reason why I'm not focusing so much on Sony is because we don't know many details about the PlayStation 4. I'm sure that one can assume that DRM will be set on its console as well but there aren't any solid details about the matter, either. More than that, though, I am typically a fan of Sony's games and I often find them to be much more interesting exclusives than anything Microsoft has created. As a result, it's tough for me to fault them without more details.

I think that Microsoft, more than most other companies, can make use of online marketing. It seems like this company has had the worst luck, especially when more and more details about the console have come to the surface. Why should gamers have to suffer because of the choices that a company has made, which seem to do more for other game publishers than anyone else? Firms along the lines of fishbat can say that consumers should remain at the forefront, under any circumstances.

I can only hope that more is done in order to help Microsoft, especially when they are going to have the most amounts of eyes set on them at E3. In fact, I think just about any company will want to have a place in the convention because it seems like there isn't a better situation for a message to be heard. E3 is perhaps the best place for it to be done, as online marketing services may attest to. In order to attract an audience, think about investing in the biggest platform that you can imagine.
