The Oculus Rift & How Online Marketing Can Help It

By Rob Sutter

I'm sure that everyone who's ever played video games has had this idea of being truly immersed in a world. You want to feel as though you're in that scenario and are in full control of what the environment entails. It seems like a far off dreams but I can't help but notice just how much potential the Oculus Rift has. It's a device that boasts a great deal of potential and I have to wonder what online marketing would do in order to bring it to a much higher level.

The Oculus Rift may come across as an uncommon name, leaving many scratching their heads. For those who may be in the dark, this is basically a head-mounted display that allows you to play games from a first-person perspective. Basically, it is the modern-age attempt at emulating a world utilizing VR capabilities. I think that the system itself is intriguing enough but I think that it would be wrong not to mention the list of games that will come along with this hardware that boasts such potential.

It's clear that the Rift is an intriguing piece of hardware but what good will be without games which support it? For example, "Minecraft" seems to be a favorite on the list and I can only imagine how much fans of the game beforehand would enjoy it with this new display. Gamers may feel as though they are in a world ready to be reconstructed and built upon, adding to the appeal. I cannot deny the idea that the Rift's potential is great and many other games support it, too.

When you're talking about online marketing, how would the display be advertised to the public? The Rift is, in my opinion, something that you may not be able to pick up from a store. After all, this isn't exactly a Sony console that you pay a few hundred dollars for upfront. Whether or not this display will be able to make strides in sales remains to be seen but, like firms such as fishbat may agree with, it is a potential powerhouse worth looking into.

When it comes to the idea of gaming, the Rift sounds a novel concept. If I was a child and I had heard about this today, I would have been clamoring for the chance to try it out, no matter if it was finished or not. Today, though, I am curious as to what it can do in order to truly impact the gaming experience, which is already pretty sizable as it stands. I think that the Rift can do much for the audience but it's just a matter of how well the audience will take to it, whether online marketing is seen or not.
