Digital Marketing, Internet Marketing - Your Key To Business Success

Many times I have read write-ups from different people who think that digital marketing and internet marketing mean the same thing. Well, they are correct at some degree. The two actually are not the same - although the approaches are similar. The truth is, they are not the same animals - and that you should be aware of as a business marketer.

So, let's dig deeper why digital marketing is not equal to internet marketing

I was planning to explain it myself but I guess Alex Chris's explanation (author of a good article that I have stumbled upon) is worth quoting, so I share it on this page. He says that 'digital marketing is a broad term that describes a set of marketing processes that utilize all available digital channels to promote a product or service or build a digital brand." On the other hand, Internet marketing is "a subset of digital marketing. It is in fact the most important component since the majority of digital marketing activities fall within the boundaries of Internet marketing."

Following the above explanation, we can say that digital marketing has a wider scope and the reason is simple: it leverages more marketing platforms than the conventional Internet marketing, which focuses mainly on search engine presence and website development designed from desktop computers. Digital marketing techniques include harnessing the potential of mobile platforms as well as the social media to reach prospects.

Digital marketing - leveraging the mobile platforms

As I have mentioned, digital marketing is also meant to target the mobile audience and this is imperative since more and more individuals are using mobile devices both for business and personal use. The exponential growth of the number of users of iPhone, android, and other mobile platforms provide more business potentials both for the marketers and prospects - both sides can access important information even when they are out and away from the office - 24/7 connectivity to businesses in the virtual world has become a reality.

Digital marketing - harnessing the power of social media

We acknowledge the fact that search engine marketing, PPC advertising as well as website development for the conventional desktop computer platform play a big role in online marketing success. But because of digital marketing techniques, which include social media campaign across different devices - desktop and mobile - we have opened up a more fascinating opportunity for business success. With social media campaign, marketers have reached another stage of online marketing landscape.

Today, more and more businesses and organization have taken their techniques to the next level - from the traditional Internet marketing - which usually involves search engine marketing and PPC - to digital marketing, which includes the traditional internet marketing plus leveraging the social and mobile platform potentials.
