Essential Information On CCG Games

By Nita McKinney

Collectible card games are also known as trading or customizable card games. They are played by the use of specifically designed cards. CCG games use a combination of strategic game-play and the appeal of collection. The very first game in this category was Magic: The Gathering. Being very successful, it is what to a great extent lead to the success of the ones that followed. Since then, there are thousands of others that have been designed.

Considering the game-play, there are sets of instructions for each collectible card game system. It is these guidelines that describe player objectives and various card categories to be used. In addition, there is description of basic rules that govern card interaction. For even easier understanding, each card comes with additional text to explain its effect on the game. The cards also signify specific elements that come from a given genre, setting or source material. Cards are named from such elements.

Magic: The Gathering as a game for example was based on a genre of fantasy. That explains why most cards used in the game represent creatures and magical charms. The dragon in this game is depicted as beastly reptile that is able to even fly. In comparison to smaller creatures, its statistics are more formidable.

Pace control of most CCGs is governed by resource systems designed for this purpose. Most of the time, it is the cards that form the deck of a given player that are considered as the resource. The frequency with which cards move from decks to either the player or the play area is very restricted. Relative card strength balancing is made achievable by the number of resources that are needed for playing the card.

These resources may either be the cards themselves or may be symbolized by other means like tokens found in resource pools or by symbols found on cards, among other things. A player selects cards from the available pool of cards. It is the selected cards that constitute the deck of the player. On the contrary, traditional card games have limited and pre-determined deck content.

Through such selection of cards, a CCG player is able to achieve strategic customization of their deck, which enables them to effectively take advantage of favorable card interactions and combinations. Whereas theoretically the deck of players could be of any size, playability is enhanced by letting the standard size be sixty cards. This is the arbitrary deck size.

Physical CCG playing was the only possibility in the past. With technology however, internet play has become very common. People can play over the internet and through the use of LAN lines. This is possible through development of virtual collections that merely exist as sets of data that rely on central servers. Software programs enable people to play without relying on central databases. Both of these are purchased.

CCG games that run for free have also been designed over time. This is done by card game creators and volunteer staff. While internet play is equally enjoyable and convenient for many, most persons are of the opinion that physical play offers more reality.
